China is now the largest polluter of Carbon in the world. This according to a new report to be published next month. According to the report that is to appear in Journal of Environment Economics and Management China probably overtook the US in 2006-2007. Accoring to the report if China continues its current trend it will overwhelm any saving that the developing world acheives.

Large scale protest along the route of the Olympic Torch in San Franciso forced organizers to change the route. Protestors were mostly opposing Chinese policy in Tibet. Some however were protesting China lack of support for actions against Sudan.

General David H. Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq testified before Congress today. He stated that while much needs to be done progress has been made in Iraq. He criticized any call for timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.

President Bush and Democratic Congressional leaders reached an agreement on an economic package to help the economy. The package includes a tax rebate to every American familiy earning up to $150,000. The proposal calls for giving each couple $1200. There will also be aid for business.

Irananian boats approached American ships in international waters today and threatened to sink them. The American ships were within moments of firing on the ships when they withdrew. The near attack increased tensions in the Persian Gulf to new highs.
